Is your sweetheart's birthday coming up? Is the Valentine's Day around the corner? Maybe an anniversary is approaching, or you just want to have a surprise escape for the weekend? Our top three choices of romantic getaways in California just might help you make that special day extra romantic and memorable.
1. Northern California - Half Moon Bay and Princeton-by-the-Sea
Your sweetheart would be thrilled to spend a weekend at the renowned Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay that sits atop of a bluff overlooking the Pacific Ocean. You can begin the day with a sumptuous breakfast or brunch at the Sam's Chowder House, then you can go for a relaxing horseback riding on the beach in the afternoon.
The Conservatory Lounge in Ritz-Carlton is a great place to cuddle up with your inamorata while enjoying a cup of coffee with some exquisite desserts and chocolates, at the same time enjoying the striking coastal scenery.
For dinner, I would recommend the Crab Landing, located in the Princeton-by-the-Sea. Its extensive selection of fresh seafood, finest steaks, and an oyster and sushi bar is sure to offer you an evening of epicurean feast.
Last but not least, The extraordinary Sunday Brunch at Navio at the Ritz-Carlton has such a wide varieties of everything, such as lobsters, oysters, steaks, caviar, and of course the desserts!
 2. Southern California - The Gondola Getaway at Naples in Long Beach
The beautiful Naples island community on the canal is located in Long Beach. You and your sweetheart can enjoy an enchanting ride on the canal in an authentic Venetian gondola, while taking in the beautiful scenery of Naples estate homes and charming bridges that connect the islands. The gondoliers in their unique striped outfit will sing Italian love songs while you sip champagne.
After the relaxing cruise, you may wish to go to the nearby Belmont Shore for dinner while enjoying the sunset.
Be sure to make your gondola ride reservations weeks ahead.
3. Central California - Moonstone Beach in Cambria
Halfway between SF and LA, the Moonstone Beach and Cambria is a charming seaside town where you can really wind down and relax with your sweetheart. The Moonstone Beach is a stretching waterfront roadway with the crashing surf on one side, and oceanfront hotels/cottages and restaurants on the other. We enjoyed peaceful walks on the beach while searching for the perfect colorful stones and sea glass. The tidepool was also amazingly full of abundant sea life, with huge starfish, sea anemones, and plenty of little crabs. There was also a wooden boardwalk up on the cliff, where we could see many sea otters and seals frolicking in the waves.
We recommend enjoying lunch or dinner at the heated patio of the waterfront Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill, located right on the Moonstone Beach Drive, where you can dine and enjoy spectacular coastal scenery.
In downtown Cambria, you will find many art galleries, antique and specialty shops. The olallieberry pie from the Linn's Bakery is also a local specialty you have to try. But if you crave something even sweeter, homemade fudges of The Gourmet Gift comes in varieties of flavors, or you may wish to have some French pastries and great coffee at the French Corner Bakery Annex.
For dinner, we highly recommend the "Zagat Rated" Sow's Ear for its exquisite cuisine and great service. Reservation's a must. Next Step: Check out the special deals from Hotel.com.
